Joseph (Joe) Franklin Ellis (born May 3, 1944) is a retired American basketball player. He played eight seasons in the NBA all for the Warriors franchise; the first five seasons were with the then San Francisco Warriors and the last three when the franchise relocated to Oakland and became the Golden State Warriors.

He attended McClymonds High School in Oakland and from 1960-1962 was a member of three Tournament of Champion teams. In two years of varsity play he was chosen to the All Tournament Team and in his senior year was named the All Tournament Most Valuable Player. He was also selected to the All City Teams and in 1962 was named the Northern California Player of the year.

Ellis attended the University of San Francisco from 1962-1966. He achieved All Conference status all of his years as a varsity player. He was also named Northern California Player of the Year as well as an All American honorable mention. He was one of four juniors chosen in 1965 to represent the United States in the World Games.

He was selected by the San Francisco Warriors in the second round (13th pick overall) of 1966 NBA Draft. The 6'6", 175 lbs forward held double-figure scoring averages in three successive seasons and in his most productive season (1969-70) averaged 15.8 points per game and totaled over 1200 points.

Joe Ellis is a member of the University of San Francisco Hall of Fame and in 2006 was named one of 50 Legends of the Hill Top.
